Where to buy Foam Rubber Mix?

I am building a home made vacuum former, and I wanted to know where I could buy some foam rubber mix. Mostly I would like to know if any big chain stores (Wall-mart, Target, Hobby-lobby, etc..) have any. Now I am going to be doing quite a bit of molding, and this stuff needs to be soft, but tough enough to stand up to a beating. Any suggestions?

Silicone rubber can be used to make candle molds, soap molds, cold cast bronze sculptures, concrete and plaster casts, wax casting for foundry and jewelry lost wax process, casting polyurethane, epoxy and other resins.

Silicones are especially good for their self-releasing characteristics. Which means that casting resins will not stick to the rubber after it is cured. Also, for many applications silicone will out live polyurethane mold materials. Silicones are preferred by rapid prototypers for their ease of use and predictable accuracy. Hobbyists also enjoy silicones because many silicones have shorter curing times.

Polyurethane rubber molds are great for concrete molds and stamps, plaster casting or other applications that involve high abrasive materials. Polyurethane molds are often used for architectural restoration, taxidermy, and artists in a wide range of applications where making repeated copies is important.

Latex rubber is popular with artists doing statuary pieces in either plaster or concrete. Latex is a tough natural rubber that can produce high surface detail.

Alginate mold material is usually a one time use product. It is safe for skin contact with most subjects. Plaster or other gypsum casting media are generally used with alginate mold compounds.

Edit; For parts and pices like you want you make a wax mold first. A wax is obtained, either from injection into a thin rubber mold made from either vacuum sealing or stamping. BLUE-WAX is great for starters. Then they are sprued (fused/fixed) onto a rubber base, called a “sprue base”. Then a metal flask, which resembles a short length of steel pipe that ranges roughly from 1.5 to six inches tall and wide, is put over the sprue base and the waxes. Sprue bases have a circular rim which grips the flask, holding it in place. Investment (refractory plaster) is mixed and poured into the flask, filling it. It hardens, then is burned out as outlined above. Then Casting is usually done straight from the kiln either by centrifugal casting or vacuum casting.

The lost-wax process can be used with any material that can burn, melt, or evaporate to leave a mold cavity. Some manufacturers use a lost-foam technique to make engine blocks. The model is made of polystyrene foam, which is placed into a casting flask, consisting of a cope and drag, which is then filled with casting sand. The foam supports the sand, allowing shapes that would be impossible if the process had to rely on the sand alone. The metal is poured in, vaporizing the foam with its heat.

They are both similar in result. But foam casting in sand always allows for the correction of any defects, polishing and secondary (repetitive) casting once you get the method down.
